What if your new members aren’t meeting anyone, and nobody on your team knows it?
In the coworking spaces I owned, a member we called “the mayor” took every new member to lunch and introduced them around. We might assume community happens naturally once enough people share a space, but it doesn’t. If nobody in your space makes those introductions, new members can take a long time to get to know anyone, and flex members on month-to-month agreements may cancel.
In this episode, I walk through how to build a Coworking Success Path for new members. It’s a written list of the small milestones that help a new member meet people and use your space, and your team tracks how many new members reach each one.
I talk about:
- Why community doesn’t happen on its own, and who is making it happen when it seems to
- What success looks like for a new member
- Milestones like meeting another member in the first day or two and booking a meeting room in the first two weeks
- Adding those milestones to your onboarding meeting, automated emails, and team checklists
- Checking in with a new member after one week instead of at 60 days
- Tracking what percentage of new members reach each milestone
- Asking members to help welcome new people
Start by writing down the milestones for your own space, then decide which numbers your team will review together.
