Insights from Claire:

  • Anyone who is faced with the choice of doing something pragmatic only because it’s pragmatic, or doing something that they love, even if there is great risk involved, should go for something that they love.

  • Learn how to say no to proposed projects if they won’t help you.

  • Don’t be afraid to pitch to a company you aren't sure if you are qualified for.

  • When you’re terrified, sometimes it’s the best way to be, fear is a great motivator.

  • Advice to other new writers: reach out to other writers, even it’s just an email.  Look for advice from people who are doing what you want to do.

  • Anyone who’s working from home should consider working in a coworking space.

How is working out of a coworking space benefiting your business?

“I had been working from home for a while, and actually my husband caught the Jacksonville Business Journal about CoWork Jax the month that it opened.  And I had found that working from home, and I continue to find this,  while you can be very productive, at times it can be very distracting, and the isolation it gets in the way of the work process.  So he said ‘Hey, why don’t you go there and check it out!’... From the moment I walked in, I said ‘This is the place for me!’.  The location is extremely ideal, the space is wonderfully done, and I love the constant changing faces...Just being around other people working, and having somebody to ask a question, it’s an invaluable resource.”
